When you find out you’re pregnant, after the initial excitement, you start reading books on pregnancy, decorating nursery, buying little clothes, toys, and diapers, all because you want to be prepared for the baby’s arrival. Nevertheless, when you come back to you home with your child in arms, you may feel confused and scared, because you realize then there are so many things to pay attention to that you don’t even know where to start. Stress is bad not just for you, but your baby too, and to be relaxed and comfortable, you should try keeping it at the low level.
Gentle touch
Bonding with your baby has to be based on primeval methods, since it cannot talk to you or even see you clearly in the first weeks. This is the reason why touch is so important, as is your voice. When bathing them, you can even try showering together, for the baby will enjoy the touch of your skin against theirs. Also, massaging the baby after the bath will help them relax and fall asleep faster. Cuddling and talking to your baby is also great for bonding, so when you cuddle during the day, you can tell a short story too.
Soft noise
Strange as it may seem, babies enjoy the sound of vacuum cleaners and blow driers (in the distance, of course), as well as white noise. You can find hours long compilations online consisting only of soft white noise which will soothe your baby. You can play it for them to fall asleep, or even play it during the day to calm them down. In addition, babies love to hear you speak, they have been listening to you from the inside for months, and now they get to hear you in person. Talk to them and read to them even if they don’t understand you, the sound of your voice is enough.
Movement
You already know that the easiest way to calm your baby down is to rock them in your arms. This is convenient when your baby is still young, and you can do some housework with your baby, or even practice some yoga together – this will develop your baby’s motor skills and tone your body at the same time. Make sure you child is fed and clean, and put them in a baby sleeping bag and a blanket on top of your yoga mat so that they are comfortable. Hold them in your arms as you bend forward to relax your back, and cuddle and giggle at the same time.
The most important thing is to see the time you’re spending with your baby as a blessing and a privilege, a new game, and a chance for the two of you to get to know each other. This way, you will feel less nervous and insecure, and as the time passes, you will be more confident and thus more relaxed, and your baby will notice that. Your child will grow up soon, and you should cherish these lovely moments you are going to share when they are young.
