Normal skin: If you have normal skin, it is good to keep it that way by using a cream or a creamy lotion to cleanse your skin. At night, you may wash your face with a mild soap. After cleansing, you should tone your skin with a non-drying skin freshener. It is also good to use a moisturizer at bedtime and under make-up. Moisturizer is important when the humidity is low.
Dry skin: You should wash your face with a mild soap and use creamy lotion formulated for dry skin to remove your make-up at night. The next thing to take care of your skin is to tone your skin with a non-drying skin freshener. Since dry skin needs plenty of lubrication, an extra-rich cream at night shall be used by paying special attention to your throat and the area around your eyes. If you have very dry skin, you may want to rinse your face with warm water. When comes to make-up, you should use a thin film of moisturizer under your make-up at all times.
Oily skin: You should wash with a medicated soap, liquid or gel cleanser 3 times a day and preferably in warm water. You should also massage with your fingertips, giving special attention to the forehead, nose, chin and hairline. Rinse off suds with warm water and follow with a cold water rinse and then pat dry. It is suggested to sponge your face with cotton wool moistened with astringent or a non-oily medicated lotion.
Blackheads are associated with oily skin. You may want to know that blackheads cannot be removed by cleansing. To ease the blackheads out, you will have to use a comedo extractor. For details about how to remove blackheads, you may check it out at Skin Problem – Prevention and Solution.
Combination skin: This usually happens when the skin is dry at the sides but oily down the middle. If you have combination skin, you will need to treat these areas separately — using dry skin preparations on the outer areas and an oily-skin routine for the middle portion. It is perfectly possible to wash the oily part of your face more frequently than the dry areas. You can massage cleanser on the oily parts and then rinse off with water.
