Goat meat is the most widely consumed meat in the world however America and the UK see little of it, and steer more toward goat’s milk or cheese. Despite it not being as popular in western countries it is slowly making an appearance in our shops, restaurants and local stalls. About time too, goat meat is not only delicious but extremely nutritious, and better for you than other red or white meats on the market.
Goat meat is a much leaner meat than the likes of beef or lamb, and therefore contains less fat and less calories. You may think that the meat having less fat will make it less juicy or succulent yet if cooked properly goat meat has a very fulfilling flavour.
Red meat has a reputation for containing high levels of saturated fat which can have detrimental effects on the heart if eaten to regularly. If eaten to often cholesterol levels in the body build up and over time can clog up arteries or slow down blood flow. As a result the heart is put under a lot of strain and a person can then suffer from cardiovascular problems. Goat meat however does not contain high levels of saturated fat making it an exceptionally healthy red meat to consume.
Whilst containing less fat and cholesterol goat meat still has a generous serving of iron in fact more than beef or chicken. So no need to worry about becoming anaemic any time soon.
